SAYUMI NISHII

Sayumi Nishii comes from Osaka, Japan. She moved to Tokyo at the age of six and began her ballet training at the Matsuyama Ballet School, which she continued at the Chie Tomioka International Ballet de Tokyo. In 2007, she moved to Italy and completed a year at the Scuola di Ballo dell' Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan. The dancer then completed her dance training at the Zurich Opera House Ballet School.

Her professional career initially took her to the National Theater Brno in the Czech Republic, where she became a member of the corps de ballet. There she had the opportunity to dance in choreographies by renowned choreographers such as Uwe Scholz, George Balanchine, Youri Vamos and Lukas Timulak.

TRAINING AND BEGINNINGS

In the 2016/17 season, she joined the TanzCompany of the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck. There she took part in numerous productions, including MacBeth, The Tempest, Romy Schneider and Lorca (choreography: Enrique Gasa Valga). She has also danced in contemporary choreographies by renowned guest choreographers such as Uwe Scholz, Jiri Kylian, Nacho Duato, Chang Ho Shin, Ohad Naharin and Mauro Bigonzetti. She has also appeared in operas such as Orphee et Euridice and Maria de Buenos Aires as well as musicals such as West Side Story and Chicago.  

From the 2023/24 season, Sayumi will be a permanent ensemble member of the Limonada Enrique Gasa Valga Dance Company, founded in 2023.

What is your favorite place in Innsbruck?

I love the Inn Bridge. The view from there is just perfect and breathtaking!

What do you like about Innsbruck and what makes it so special for you?

In Innsbruck, the tap water simply tastes great! This is not a matter of course, because you don't find such high quality water everywhere.

What are your favorite leisure activities in Innsbruck?

I love walking or cycling along the Inn in my free time. It's so relaxing and rejuvenating.

 Where is your favorite place to eat and/or linger in Innsbruck?

I love the Coo Run Inn. The food is very tasty and I like to spend a nice evening there.
