Passion, longing, energy, and great stories: The 2027 “ Innsbruck Winter Dance Festival ” brings contemporary dance to life. Enrique Gasa Valga is bringing three world premieres and an international guest company to the Dogana in Innsbruck. 

What Words Cannot Express

Dance begins where words are no longer enough—when bodies tell stories of love and loss, of longing and a zest for life. This emotional power is at the heart of the 2027 “ Innsbruck Winter Dance Festival .” Two productions, a multi-part dance evening, three world premieres, and a renowned guest company promise dance of the highest caliber and moments when the boundary between stage and audience seems to disappear.

Frida Kahlo: Passion Returns

After touring throughout Europe, “Viva la Vida – A Tribute to Frida Kahlo” returns to Innsbruck after eight years. The production tells a story of pain and love, vulnerability, and an indomitable will to live. For the first time, it will be accompanied by live music from the popular Bolzano singer Greta Marcolongo and musical director Roberto Tubaro.

Beethoven Meets the Language of the Body

In 2027, the Year of Beethoven , the Spanish company Factoria de Dansa – LaFACT will perform “Dancing Beethoven.” In this production, choreographer Kevin O’Day translates the power and emotional intensity of the Fifth Symphony into contemporary movement.

Camilla Danesi and Leandro Montero will perform the first part of the evening. This will be followed by a world premiere by the exceptionally talented choreographer Vincenzo Timpa of the Leipzig Ballet, created especially for Innsbruck.

Mary Magdalene: Between the Sacred and the Sensual

Enrique Gasa Valga’s new work , “Mary Magdalene,” is having its world premiere in Innsbruck. Set to Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and music by Roberto Tubaro, the work explores a figure who, for centuries, has served as a canvas for love, devotion, guilt, desire, and redemption. Birgit Edelbauer-Heiss (costumes), Alberto Talarico, and Valeria Angesi (set design) create a world that straddles the sacred and the sensual.

Closer to dance than ever before

A new 270-degree stage at the Dogana brings the audience closer to the action and opens up new perspectives. Afternoon performances, side events, and dance workshops enrich the festival. As early as November 28, 2026, Innsbruck’s downtown will itself become a stage during a flash mob. Because dance isn’t just meant to be watched—it’s meant to move people.

“The ‘ Innsbruck Winter Dance Festival ’ brings a moving touch to Innsbruck’s winter. We want to leverage the festival even more for tourism and, for the first time, are partnering with the company to support its tour in key source markets. These performances serve as a showcase for the region, and through them we are investing in greater international visibility,” explains Peter Paul Mölk, chairman of Innsbruck Tourism.
